Yes, Google is planning to release an alternative for Siri in the near future.
According to google the new Alternative will be called “the Assistant”.
Assistant will go beyond what Siri can do according to google.

As first reported by Tech Crunch, it seems Google is prepping a major release of its voice assistant this year. Gone is the old name Majel that it was initially known as. Removing the Majel name from the equation, Google has possibly decided to call it the ‘Assistant’ instead.

According to the source, the Android team that is in charge with the development, along with the help of the company’s search engineer Amit Singhai, has been hard at work to accomplish three things

According to reports, the project has three parts:
1. Get the world’s knowledge into a format a computer can understand
2. Create a personalization layer — Experiments like Google +1 and Google+ are Google’s way of gathering data on precisely how people interact with content.
3. Build a mobile, voice-centered “Do engine” (‘Assistant’) that’s less about returning search results and more about accomplishing real-life goals.
